On September 11, 2001, the United States was hit by the coordinated terrorist attacks. Every inbound customer that our parent company Elephant Tour, our local corporation here in the United States, was handling from Japan cancelled, and all of our business came to a dead stop. When we asked ourselves what we still had, what came to mind were the many travel agencies we were doing business with at the time. They must be struggling too, we thought, with nothing left to sell. If customers would not come from Japan, was there something we could offer to customers going from the United States to Japan? That was when the idea came to us of renting mobile phones for use in Japan, something no other company had touched at the time.

Public telephones were disappearing from the streets, and in Japan a mobile service called i-mode, built on 3G, had just begun. You could make calls, send text messages and get on the internet, and it became a popular product almost overnight. That was where our company started.

Times changed. More companies entered the industry, and our own line-up moved from rental mobile phones to rental Wi-Fi, and then to SIM cards and eSIMs. This year marks our 25th year in business, and we have become one of the long-established names in this field. Ever since we started we have been on the 5th floor of the Westin Bonaventure Hotel, in the heart of downtown Los Angeles and easy to reach, so please stop by. The hotel we are in is well known for appearing in Hollywood films over the years, including True Lies (Arnold Schwarzenegger), In the Line of Fire (starring Clint Eastwood) and Interstellar (starring Anne Hathaway).
